When Russian teenager, Katya Grineva, came to New York in 1989, she had two goals: to study in America and to play at Carnegie Hall. Katya made her Carnegie Hall debut on May 13, 1990 and has performed there every year since. Dec 2021 marked her twentieth solo appearance at this world famous concert hall. While living in New York, she acquired the reputation as a pianist of exceptional romantic and poetic expression. Commentators agree that her performances are deeply impactful and demonstrate the value of the beauty of tone.
Since 1998 Steinway and Sons have awarded Katya the honorable title of the Steinway Artist. In 2005, Katya performed Mozart Piano Concerto No. 20 with the Guayaquil Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Conductor David Harutyunyan in Ecuador, and also at Avery Fisher Hall in New York City.
Other recognitions include a special award from the New York State Shields, and in 2005 a special achievement award from the Guam government. In 2006, the President of the Philippines presented Katya with the Guzi Peace Prize. Katya also was chosen to perform and record the world premiers of piano sonatas by romantic Viennese composer Marcei Tyberg. In 2008, she gave a private concert to former President and First Lady George and Barbara Bush.
Katya continued her worldwide travels returning to the Philippines for a benefit concert attended by fomer President Fidel Ramos. 2010 was a significant year for Katya with the completion of her world tour. The tour included noteworthy performances in Quito, Ecuador; Nairobi, Kenya; Singapore; Hong Kong, China; Melbourne and Sydney, Australia; and Ravello, Italy. Her Singapore performance was captured on her recently released DVD, entitled, “Katya Grineva…Live in Singapore.” Upon her return from Fiji Katya recorded her water inspired CD, “Liquid Dream.”
